Description

Restoration and initiation to rattan work course During this three-day course, you will learn to restore one or more rattan objects while discovering the fundamental techniques of this artisanal know-how. The training will begin with an in-depth presentation of the material: its characteristics, its classification, its different sources as well as the supply chains. Depending on the restoration work undertaken, participants will be led to discover and practice several essential techniques: Assembly and covering Learning of the different methods allowing to assemble the rattan elements and to hide or enhance the junctions using specific attachment and ligature techniques. Bending of rattan An essential technique for working with rattan, bending will be approached from different aspects: Bending of fine rattans (10 to 12 mm) Bending of reinforcing rattans (20 to 22 mm up to 30 to 32 mm) Participants will also discover the different heating processes as well as the principles of producing a bending design.ArcadageThis essential technique for reinforcing assemblies will be put into practice on different supports such as seats, magazine racks or other furniture elements.Practical informationInternship supervisor: Claude Cultot, former teacher trainer at the national basketry school of Fayl-BillotDates: from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 October 2026Place: Face-to-face training at Rotin Filé, 53 rue du September 1, 1944 Duration: 3 days (i.e. 21 hours of training) Target audience: Beginners and experienced practitioners Times: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Materials provided: All tools and supplies necessary for the training are included. Object to restore: Each participant must bring one or more rattan objects to restore. In order to validate the feasibility of the planned work, a photograph of the objects will be requested before the start of the course. Organization and reception of participants To facilitate your stay, a list of accommodation located near the training location can be communicated to you upon simple request. It will also be sent automatically approximately one month before the start of the course.Lunch breakSeveral options will be offered to participants: Order a meal from the nearby partner restaurant (€14 option), with delivery directly to the course location.Bring your own lunch.Take advantage of the break area provided, equipped with a hotplate, a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker, a kettle as well as tables and chairs. chairs.
